Focusing primarily on West Africa as the springboard, the ensemble spurs an evolving understanding of the cultural and historical underpinnings of the dance while showing its relationship to the United States. Further, participants develop an appreciation of the dynamic nature and contemporary influence of this traditional art form. The Elegba Folklore Society presents a multi-dimensional program that engages audiences in the story as it rises from a cultural perspective.
